Diablo 4: How To Salvage Gear
First of all, you need to know how to salvage gear you don't need, because materials earned by salvaging armor pieces or weapons are needed to then upgrade your other gear. To salvage items, you just need to go to the Blacksmith in any town or settlement, and in the salvage tab you can choose to either salvage,
- all items marked as junk.
- all Common (white) items.
- all Magic (blue) items.
- all Rare (yellow) items.
- all items.
Via the button with the pickaxe on it, you can also choose single items from your inventory to salvage. For salvaging items, you will get materials, depending on the rarity of the salvaged item. These are then used to upgrade your gear.
How to Repair Gear
To repair broken gear, you just switch to the Repair tab at the Blacksmith and click either "Equipped" or "All Items". Repairing your gear will only cost gold, so you don't need any crafting materials.
How To Upgrade Gear
The most obvious way to upgrade your gear is going to the Blacksmith and just adding more Item Power to your armor or weapon. This will improve all stats on your gear and will cost you some crafting materials and gold.
- Go to the Blacksmith
- Go to the Upgrade Item tab
- Drag and drop the item you want to upgrade
- Click on Upgrade if you have all materials and enough gold
Enchantments
In Diablo 4, your gear has affixes which give stat bonuses. Depending on the rarity of the item, it has several affixes like, improving your crit chance, giving an extra skill point for one specific skill or similar. Sometimes those affixes might not fit your build, but don't worry, you can actually change affixes at the Occultist.
- Find an Occultist (they are in every bigger town)
- Go to the Enchant Item tab
- Drag and drop the item you want to improve
- Choose the affix you want to replace and click enchant
- Choose the affix you want from the choice you are given
Aspects
While already at the Occultist, you can also imprint aspects on your gear. Imprinting an aspect onto a piece of armor or a weapon, will give it a legendary affix and turn the item to legendary rarity. If you want to know, how to get aspects just take a look at our guide:
- Find an Occultist (they are in every bigger town)
- Choose an aspect either from your codex of power or your inventory
- Choose an item from your inventory that can take this aspect (the items will be highlighted as soon as you pick a specific aspect)
- Click on Imprint Aspect
If you find a legendary item with a nice aspect on it, you can also extract this aspect to use it on another item. Just go to the Extract Aspect tab, drag and drop the legendary gear and click Extract Aspect. The item will be destroyed and you can find the aspect in your inventory.
Gems
Another way to upgrade your gear are gems. Some items will have sockets and thus allow you to put a gem in them. Gems will give your gear extra affixes like higher basic skill damage, more HP and so on. Upgrading the single gems will improve the amount of damage, life etc. they are adding to your gear.
- Go to the Jeweler
- For every three gems of the same type and rarity, you can craft one better gem
The Jeweler can also remove gems from your gear and even add sockets to items that don't have one yet. However, to add a socket you need scattered prisms, a really rare crafting material, so adding sockets should be something you only do to your most precious gear.
If you want to upgrade your rings and amulets, this can also be done by the Jeweler and works exactly like upgrading armor and weapons at the Blacksmith. Drag and drop the item and click Upgrade if you have the necessary materials and gold.
And that's it. There are a ton of ways to upgrade and improve your gear in Diablo 4 so make sure to use all of them to really min-max your build.
