Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb leaked new information about the PlayStation 5 Pro and most importantly, the expected release window!
The PlayStation 5 Pro is yet again the talk of the town, thanks to some freshly leaked info. According to Jeff Grubb on his Game Mess podcast, industry insiders supposedly confirming a mid-gen refresh hitting the shelves in September 2024!
Considering Sony's track record, a mid-cycle upgrade seems quite likely, so the September 2024 release date seems quite believable. Interestingly, they seem to be putting extra effort into enhancing the PS5 Pro, opting for their own special hardware instead of sticking with AMD, the current chipmaker for the PS5.
PlayStation 5 Pro: Could Use Similar Tech To Nvidia's DLSS
Take the next bit of information with a grain of salt, but from the latest leaks, it looks the PS5 Pro might adopt a similar feature to Nvidia's DLSS. This could lead to a significant improvement in hardware performance, with frame rates potentially boosted by up to 50% through hardware acceleration.
If this pans out, the PS5 Pro might not only handle 4K/60 reliably across all games but also push for 120 fps in some cases. This would be a major leap forward, as typically only Mid- and High-End PCs can handle games at such high frame rates.
The groundbreaking aspect here is that DLSS, which uses AI to enhance game resolution, is currently exclusive to Nvidia graphics cards. This feature allows for better graphics and smoother frame rates, even on less powerful hardware.
But the leak doesn't clarify why Sony wouldn't choose AMD. Their FidelityFX Super Resolution feature, similar to DLSS, could technically support the RDNA 2 graphics card installed in the current PS5.
