Fall Guys feels inspired by Squid Game, and wants to add a new game mode like Red Light, Green Light.
What came first? The chicken or the egg? Squid Guys or Fall Game? Wait... no, anyway: The answer is Battle Royale. The manga, Battle Royale – that came first. Also, Hunger Games. Also, Gantz. Also, a bunch of other battle royale games came long before Fall Guys had the idea to copy Takeshi's Castle. Oh, yeah, Takeshi's Castle – that came first too.
Anyway, now that Squid Game is all the rage, the Fall Guys devs, Devolver Digital, figured they would cash in on the hype. More specifically, they want to revive a scrapped idea, which they originally had, but never used. Now that idea is working quite well for Netflix show: Red Light Green Light.
Fall Guys Will Add Red Light Green Light Mode
Here's what the devs had to say about the idea of adding Squid Game modes to Fall Guys:
"One of the ones that's come up recently, again, is Squid Game [which] is now the biggest TV show in the world. And it opens with Red Light Green Light, which is something that we dabbled with. And we never actually got to prototyping it, because we couldn't quite see how it works. Within a video game there's something about movement, which is in real life it's very hard to stay still. But in a video game, you just put your controller down. And so at the time, I think we were like 'we'll never do Red Light Green Light, it doesn't make sense.' But now seeing how popular Squid Game is I'd love for us to have another crack at something like that and see if we could do it in Fall Guys."
Spoiler alert: You won't get killed for not standing still in Fall Guys. Well... you'll get eliminated, but it won't be bloody. You get the point.
Certainly, Fall Guys adding Squid Game modes to their game should surprise no one. It only makes sense, and, also, it allows them to get ahead of the Squid Game video game, which is supposedly in development.
