Final Fantasy 16 will get a day one patch, after the developers initially promised that there wouldn’t be one. It’s thankfully not too bad though.
Final Fantasy fans thought they were the lucky few who were spared a day one patch, as the developers said that there wouldn’t be one. Well, how the tables have flipped: Square Enix is walking back their promise and Final Fantasy 16 will have a day one patch after all.
But don’t worry, this one is really not that bad.
Final Fantasy 16 Day One Patch Revealed
Producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida revealed during a pre-launch livestream, that Final Fantasy 16 will get a day one patch of roughly 300 MB, which was first reported by MP1ST. The game will work without it, this patch is just supposed to address some performance issues that players had while playing the demo.
That is really not that bad, considering how most AAA games nowadays launch with huge day one patches of several GB, which are necessary to even launch the game or play it in any reasonable state (looking at you, Jedi Survivor).
Still, this is of course pretty annoying considering how director Hiroshi Takai said just last month that there wouldn’t be a patch at all. At least it’s the best case scenario, in that the patch isn’t that big.
Also, the Final Fantasy 16 preload will already include the patch. So if you download the game ahead of launch, you can immediately start playing on June 22, when Final Fantasy 16 releases for PS5.
