A Final Fantasy 16 PC port has already been announced by Square Enix. Since the game released on the PS5 in June 2023, many PC players have been wondering when FF16 will be playable for them. Now, the game's producer Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida revealed new details on the much-anticipated port.
After a long wait, Final Fantasy 16 released for PlayStation 5 in June 2023 and fans are still waiting for a release for PC and Xbox consoles. Especially after the announcement that Final Fantasy 14 is finally coming to Xbox, excitement for the latest mainline title has been growing.
Now, producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida revealed further details on what to expect with the port, talking about how the game is closer to release than people might be expecting.
Final Fantasy 16 PC Version: Yoshi-P Comments On Required Hardware, Demo & Possible Release Window
In a new interview with Game Informer, Yoshida talked about the current state of the Final Fantasy 16 PC port. Bad news first: Even Yoshi-P himself is not ready to share a concrete release date yet. However, he did reveal that the port is in the "final stages of optimization" and that they just need a little bit more time to fully nail down the last details.
Something the team is currently trying to determine are the system requirements. Yoshida says they will "be somewhat high", however the last details on what exactly players need have to be cleared up first.
What is probably the best news here, is that Final Fantasy 16 will get a demo before release, just like it did on PS5. Fans can look forward to it, along with the full PC port, in the not too distant future, according to Yoshi-P. He promises that "it won't be a year [...] it will probably be shorter than that". It can be expected then that Final Fantasy 16 will come to PC at some point in 2024.
Previously, Yoshi-P revealed that the Final Fantasy 16 PC version will require an SSD, due to fast loading speeds being so crucial to the game. While the team will try their "best to optimize as much as possible", an "HDD would be a pain".
So Final Fantasy 16 will most likely ask you to use an SSD hard drive, probably even in the minimum requirements. If you still don't have one, I highly recommend this SanDisk external SSD . I've been using it for a year or so, and it basically got rid of load times in most games, it's that fast.
