During the latest State of Play, we got an in-depth look at Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second part of the Trilogy Remake. This is everything we know so far!
With the newest trailer from the State of Play, we got a good look at the upcoming Part 2 and Square Enix is literally going all out with this one. They revealed tons of new locations, characters and more, giving us a good idea which story parts will be included in the game.
But considering what's happened in Final Fantasy 7 Remake it's yet to be seen how the storyline will unfold before us, but that's the exciting part, isn't it?
Without further ado, let's get down to business and see what we do know!
Final Fantasy 7 "Rebirth": Release Date & Platforms
With so much uncertainty beforehand, we know now when we'll be able to return to Gaia. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming on February 29, 2024, for PlayStation 5.
Square Enix has yet to confirm if Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will also release on PC. As Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade already available in Epic Games and Steam, there is a high possibility we will see the game there eventually.
And through the confirmed team-up from Square Enix and Xbox, there is an increased likelihood we will see those games on the Game Pass as well. But as for the time of writing (September 15) there haven't been any official announcements about it yet.
Final Fantasy 7 "Rebirth": Locations & Worldmap
In Rebirth, we have a lot more places to explore compared to Part 1, which mostly kept you in Midgar. The good news is that you can always go back to any of the locations listed, even after you've progressed in the main quest. This is especially great because it's a completely different approach from Part 1, which focused mainly on Midgar.
Those are the locations we will definitely see:
- Midgar
- Village Kalm
- Chocobo Farm
- The Mythrill Mine
- Junon
- Shinra Cargo Ship
- Gold Saucer
- Cosmo Canyon
- Nibelheim
- Nibel Reactor
- The Sleeping Forest
- The Northern Crater
With so many locations in store, director Tetsuya Nomura and Naoki Hamaguchi said:
The world map is vast and expansive, so not all of the locations on it will be used in the main story alone. In fact, volume wise, the amount of side content in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is nearly double that of the main quest content.
In addition to the locations, the devs also included the Gold Saucer, a mini-game rich region where you will spend a lot of time. They're going all-out and created a huge number of mini-games on a scale that surpasses even the original - definitely can't wait to see!
Final Fantasy 7 "Rebirth": Revealed Characters
With the returning characters of Part 1 we'll see tons of new faces as well! These are the characters revealed in the latest trailers:
- Cloud Strife
- Aertih Gainsborough
- Tifa Lockhart
- Barret Wallace
- Red 13
- Sephiroth
- Zack Fair

Final Fantasy 7 "Rebirth": Story
If you played the original and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake from 2020, you'll know by now that the storyline drastically differs from each other. Square Enix took the framework of all the Final Fantasy 7 released games, and reimagined the Remake trilogy for the next generation of players.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth picks up right where Part 1 left off. Cloud, Barret, Tifa, Aerith, and Red 13 have left Midgar and arrived in the village of Kalm. Meanwhile, in Sector 5's church, another person is searching for Aerith. This mysterious young man is Zack Fair, Aerith's fiancé. He formerly lost his life during the events of Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core, the prequel to the original Final Fantasy 7.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions, about Sephiroth, the hooded men, the connection to the Lifestream, and more. But there will be a point in the game where Cloud and Sephiroth will team up together and fight alongside one another!
We will update this article if new announcements arise.
