There's a ton of great things to play this year, from the new Horizon, to our personal Game of the Year. But new games aren't cheap, and we're in a cost-of-living crisis. So to help our readers find good deals and free offers, we always keep one ear to the ground. And we've just discovered a way to get an exciting new game called Stray, for one week, without paying a cent. Don't worry, a week should be more than enough time to complete this game; most players are finishing Stray within about 8 hours.

This isn't a trick, you really can get this game for free for one week, and we think it's well worth it (check out review of Stray). Here's a quick overview on what this game is and how to get your hands on it.

What Is Stray?

Stray is a 3rd-person adventure game, in which you play as a lost cat who has to find his way home through a dystopian cyber-city. The world looks exactly like how we imagined Cyberpunk would, although there's less sex and drugs. In general, this is an incredibly wholesome game. It's not GTA with cats (although, in their defense, even Rockstar are starting to tone down the darker themes in their games).

You play as a cat with basic movement and interaction options, and you have to navigate this strange world and solve environmental puzzles. It's not going to re-invent the way you think about gaming, and it's not going to be the next game you're "addicted to", but we think the vast majority of you will get a really fun weekend out of it. Sound good? Then let's get into how you can get this game for free.

How Can You Play Stray For Free?

You can play Stray for free by signing up to a 1-week trial of PlayStation Plus Premium Extra or Premium. Both of these subscriptions have 7-day trials, and Stray has just been added to the PlayStation Plus library.

Here's how to get the game:

  1. Go to the PlayStation Plus sign-up page, and choose to start your 7-day free trial for either a Premium or Extra subscription.
  2. Sign-in to the same account you started a trial with on your PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4.
  3. Don't search for the game in the store, instead, go to the PS Plus Library on the home screen and manually navigate to Stray from this menu. This way you can merely download Stray as part of the subscription rather than buying the game.
  4. You will see an option to "Download" the game, do so, and enjoy!

You see, even in these trying times there are ways for us to get our hands on some fun new games. And we were really happy with Stray, so we don't think you'll be disappointed. Who knows, maybe you like it so much you choose to buy it anyway.
