Is God of War Ragnarok Coming in 2022?
Yes, God of War Ragnarok will be released in 2022. Originally, the game was supposed to be released in 2021, but COVID, as well as production hurdles made that an impossibility. Now, 2022 is the new release window, with no exact release date in sight. It's likely that the game will not be released before March 2022, else we would likely already have a release date. Mid-2022 seems to be a logical estimate for a God of War Ragnarok release date.
God of War Ragnarok Gameplay Changes
There are no gameplay changes revealed yet, but we know at least one thing that God of War Ragnarok needs to change desperately:
Will God of War Ragnarok Be Released on the PS4?
Yes, aside from being on the PS5, the game will also be released on the PS4. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm slightly worried about that: The PS4 has its limitations, and God of War already pushed them. Surely, Santa Monica Studios would be able to step it up significantly with the power of the PlayStation 5, but now they are limited by also making a PS4 version viable. Of course, this is all due to the PS5 rollout proving so difficult, and them wanting to reach as many gamers as possible. Still, this is probably not the very best God of War Ragnarok we could get, due to it being held back by the PS4.
Is God of War Ragnarok the Last Game?
Yes, it's been confirmed that God of War Ragnarok is the last game of the current storyline. Kratos' adventures in the north will not continue after this, and the Norse mythology will be wrapped up with Ragnarok.
Will There be a God of War After Ragnarok?
There's been no word on this yet, but it is very likely that God of War will continue to exist. For one, the franchise is too profitable for Sony to end it, and, for another, the comics already took Kratos to Egypt, which is the most likely next mythology the series will visit.
Is God of War Ragnarok Open-World?
The trailer can easily give off the impression that God of War Ragnarok is an open-world game, but it's since been confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will still be linear: The game will not have an open-world, though it will be broader in its scope and landscapes.
Will Zeus Return in God of War Ragnarok?
Well, we did get a Zeus cameo in God of War, that leaves many open questions. In God of War III, Zeus turned to his astral, so it's entirely possible that Zeus could make a full return, after all... he is the god of gods. Plus, with Kratos' fatherhood being such a central theme, him coming to grips with his own dad (whom he killed...) could be an interesting way to spice up the plot.
Will Odin Be in God of War Ragnarok?
Yes, it's been confirmed that Odin, the Allfather, will appear in God of War Ragnarok. He will play a major role during Ragnarok, but he will be vastly different from what fans might be expecting. Since Thor's appearance was already a huge surprise, we wouldn't put it past Santa Monica Studios to trip us up with Odin as well. Here's what they had to say on the matter:
“It’s a very different take, again, much like Thor. He’s like an old man who’s just kinda busy with his own things and doing whatever he wants. He doesn’t live in a castle or anything like that.”
God of War Ragnarok Combat Details
God of War already had some of the finest combat the PS4 had to offer, and God of War Ragnarok will up the ante: We will get new abilities, new Runic summons, new enemies and one crucial feature that's entirely new: Player choice. Here's a quote from the devs on the matter.
“With God of War Ragnarök, one of our main goals was to push player choice in combat. Whether it’s through hard hitting combos, a mastery of elements, or clever defensive tactics – you will find plenty of opportunity to fight alongside our duo in a way that feels uniquely expressive.”
God of War Ragnarok Story Details
Not much is known, but we do know that the game is set a couple of years after God of War, since Atreus' voice is much deeper, and he's grown a fair bit. Also, Fimbulwinter has completely frozen over Midgard, and will soon be followed by Ragnarok. We know that Atreus' is mainly concerned with finding out more about his identity, while Kratos is looking to protect his son. Director Eric Williams promises “a very heartfelt and epic story”. So we can check the epic-scale thanks to Ragnarok, and know that we will need to have tissues at the ready. Sounds good.
That wraps up all the less obvious facts about God of War Ragnarok we could think of. Of course, God of War had an epic plot-twist ending, and all we know is that we really don't know what to expect from God of War Ragnarok. Santa Monica Studios will be looking to craft another epic that will keep everybody talking, and we have no doubt that God of War Ragnarok will be one of the major contenders for Game of the Year 2022. For now, though, all we can do is wait, and maybe we will get some God of War Ragnarok news at this year's Game Awards.
