Hades 2 (officially titled HADES II) stands as one of the most eagerly awaited rogue-like sequels in gaming history! Dive into the details here, including the release window, new content, and when to hop into early access.
There was cheering when fans of the hit game Hades realized what they were about to see at the Game Awards 2022. The announcement trailer already provided fans with a glimpse at the gameplay of Hades 2, and finally we know when Early Access will kick off.
The gameplay for Hades 2 was pretty reminiscent of part one, in which you had to prove yourself against almost infinite opponents – a true fight of life and death, because the game is one thing above all: unforgiving.
Rogue-like games are the ones where you collect loot that you keep for as long as you stay alive. If you die, you lose everything, and you have to start all over again. If you dead you dead, quite simply. A game where you either own or die – a lot. Perfect combos aren't just nice to have, they're crucial to surviving.
Hades 2 Story: Introducing Melinoe, the New Protagonist
Hades 2 is the first sequel that Supergiant Games has ever created for one of its own games and it will change things up drastically, quite literally, because we will get a new main character. From now on, we will be playing as Melinoe (officially: Melinoë). Similar to its predecessor, the game will have you explore the mythic underworld of Hades, fighting against all kinds of monsters from Greek mythology.
There are already some things we know about Melinoë. The immortal princess of the underworld is in fact the sister of Zagreus, the protagonist of the original game. She is also based on an ancient underworld deity who appears to be related to Hades. So maybe she is more of a half-sister? In mythology, Melinoë is associated with Hecate and witchcraft. She is depicted as a nymph goddess who roams the earth with ghosts.
Melinoë is expected to bring a significant change in tone and personality compared to Zagreus, the protagonist of the original "Hades." This shift suggests a fresh perspective and new dynamics in the game's narrative.
Hades 2: Release Window And Early Access
As of now, there is no official release date for Hades 2, BUT: we know that Early Access will start in the second quarter of 2024 on Steam and the Epic Games Store. That info was shared in a development update by Supergiant Games themselves.

This means that people will be able to test out the game somewhere between April and June. According to the developers, the early access version will already feature a big pile of content:
"Hades II will have at least as much content from day one in Early Access as the original game did back when it launched in Early Access on Steam".
That sounds pretty good if you ask me. Similar to their approach with the original Hades, Supergiant Games plans to use player feedback extensively to refine and improve Hades 2 during its Early Access phase and have a polished product on day one.
With the Early Access starting in Q2 of 2024 we expect the release date somewhere around early 2025. That presumption is based on a pattern we have observed with similar game releases and early access timelines.
