Halo Infinite season 4 is just a couple of days old. But the player numbers are abysmal. What's going on with the once-legendary series?
Halo is one of the best known sci-fi franchises in video game history, with millions of fans all around the world, so popular that it even got its own TV show. But it's safe to say that the franchise is struggling at the moment. Just a few days ago, the new season for Halo Infinite launched. But it seems like nobody cares anymore.
Halo Infinite Season 4: The New Season Nobody Cares About
The Halo franchise is around 20 years old now, and has always managed to keep players interested in its newest titles. But it seems like this is not the case anymore, since the player count for Halo Infinite is constantly going down. Since the launch of the game, back in October 2021, Halo Infinite has lost nearly 98% of its player base.
Halo Infinite's developers, 343 Industries, were hoping to turn the trend around with the start of the 4th season of the game. Just as a reminder, before the start of season 4, roughly 2,700 players were playing the game per day. That's of course nothing compared to the number of around 256,600 players at launch day. But dwindling player numbers are to be expected over time.

Now, with the start of the new season, player numbers increased again. But just up to 6,000 daily players. So it seems that Halo Infinite is unable to regain an at least bigger portion of the former players to rejoin the game.
Now, 343 Industries has to ask themselves a few important questions. After all, It's about their reputation as a game developing studio.
So, what went wrong? What do they have to do to regain players? Is Halo Infinite worth the amount of money and work? What needs to change for the next games in the Halo franchise?
If these questions can't be answered quickly and no further actions are taken, it is possible we are watching the Halo franchise continuing to struggle. It would be sad for one of the biggest and popular sci-fi series in video game history.
Halo Infinite Season 4: What's New?
It's not like the developers aren't trying to regain interest in Halo Infinite season 4. With the new season came a wide variety of new content. Two new maps, a never expiring battle pass, dozens of new equipment pieces and free events to earn new customization content.
Also, updates to Forge were introduced and the new HAZMAT armor was implemented. But sadly, it seems like this isn't enough to convince former players to come back to the game. Or enough to convince new players or fans of the franchise in general to try the game, let alone keep playing it.
This has to be an alarming signal for the devs. The game is free to play, after all. And it has nice graphics and really good gameplay, especially compared to other free to play shooter on the market.
