Honkai Star Rail Ruan Mei Build: Best Light Cones & Team Comp

The Genius Society in Honkai Star Rail is an intergalactic organization, whose 84 members are personally selected by Nous, the Aeon of the Erudition, from across the cosmos. With the upcoming version 1.6, we will get to know member 81, Ruan Mei, since she will be present during the first phase of the next update!

Ruan Mei is a sweet-tempered and elegant scholar and, as I already mentioned, the 81 Member of the Genius Society. Next to Madam Herta, Screwllum and Stephen, Ruan Mei was one of the four founders of the Simulated Universe, however her main field of research lies much more in biology and understanding the origin of life!

When Ruan Mei is not deciphering the mysteries of the Star Rail world, she loves to enjoy a cup of tea and a sweet pastry while doing her favorite hobby: embroidering! (Isn’t she just so … beautiful?)

Personally, I think her design looks really well-thought-out, and especially the color choices made for her dress fit Ruan Mei's personality perfectly!

Ruan Mei Build

In order to make your Ruan Mei build as good as possible, you should aim to give her a completed 4-piece set together with a 2-piece set! If there is no other option, you can also go with three 2-piece sets instead!

Since Ruan Mei is a Harmony character, she doesn’t require THAT much investment into her Relics in order to be super useful. However, choosing the correct set is still really important. We will show you two building options:

Relic Set Combination #1

You should use this set, if you need more SPD for you and your team:

• 4-piece: Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
• 2-piece: Broken Keel

Relic Set Combination #2

Use this option, if you need Ruan Mei to break Ice weakness fast:

• 4-piece: Thief of Shooting Meteor
• 2-piece: Broken Keel

I would always recommend the first option, since SPD is an incredibly valuable stat, but both sets are definitely useable, since some of her skills scale off of her Break Effect!

Ruan Mei's Best Stats

The right (sub)stats are just as essential as the correct set! You should aim for the following stats:

1. Body: HP% / DEF%
2. Boots: SPD
3. Planar Sphere: HP% / DEF%
4. Link Rope: Break Effect
5. Overall Prio: Break Effect (until you reached around 180%)→ SPD → HP% / Effect RES

As already mentioned, to stack enough SPD and Break Effect is super necessary on Ruan Mei. If you got that covered, you can focus on building her quite tanky, so she survives longer and can buff your team consistently without getting one shot!

Ruan Mei's Light Cones

Just as every other limited 5-Star character, Ruan Mei will have her very own signature Light Cone, however, since she is a supportive Harmony unit, you should consider saving your Jades instead of pulling her weapon! There are a bunch of fantastic 4-Star Harmony Light Cones, which will be almost as good as her signature weapon!

1. Past Self in Mirror

Okay, hear me out: I know just said, that her Light Cone is not really necessary, but … maybe it is, just for the artwork on it alone! The effect is really strong as well, but as I already said, there are many more alternatives, which will work just as fine for her and will cost you far fewer pulls!

Past Self in Mirror has the following effect:

• Increases the wearer's Break Effect by 60%. After the wearer uses their Ultimate, increases all allies' DMG by 24%, lasting for 3 turn(s). Should the wearer's Break Effect exceed or equal 150%, 1 Skill Point will be recovered. At the start of each wave, immediately regenerates 10 Energy for all allies. Effects of the same type cannot stack. (S1)

All in all, this Light Cone is basically the dream for every support or buffer unit, and especially the Skill Point recovery is something that a lot of teams can use really well. If you plan on becoming the biggest Ruan Mei main the world has ever seen, you should probably get the Light Cone as well!

2. Dance! Dance! Dance!

Who could have thought that Dance! Dance! Dance! will be her second-best option! — Wait, everyone knew it already? In the entire Star Rail universe, there is no Harmony character who wouldn’t want this Light Cone! Its effect is as simple as it is effective, and that's all you want from a buffer anyway, right?

Dance! Dance! Dance! has the following effect:

• When the wearer uses their Ultimate, all allies' actions are advanced forward by 16%. (S1)

3. Memories of the Past

Another option you just can’t go wrong with is Memories of the Past. Especially since Ruan Mei wants a lot of Beak Effect, this Light Cone can help you to reach the goal of 180% much easier!

Memories of the Past has the following effect:

• Increases the wearer's Break Effect by 28%. When the wearer attacks, additionally regenerates 4 Energy. This effect can only be triggered 1 time per turn. (S1)

Personally, I will go with Dance! Dance! Dance! on Ruan Mei!

So if we want to be completely accurate, Ruan Mei fits into almost every team, as buffers are always welcome! Especially if you're playing hyper carries like Jingliu, Jing Yuan or Seele, buffers are always extra valuable! I will still give you an idea, of how a Ruan Mei team could look like:

Have you ever played double buffer with Seele? Well, if not, you should definitely give it a try, since your Seele will reach speed numbers, you have never seen in Star Rail. Plus her extra attack when she eliminates an enemy, your opponents won’t even have the chance to attack before dying. Is will it carry you though the hardest endgame content? — Probably not. But it’s a lot of fun!
