Halo fans may be getting a new campaign in some shape or form soon.
Halo fans have had it rough since Halo Infinite's release. The game's launch seemed promising, but after a confusing and irritating monetization strategy, mass layoffs at 343 Industries and the series' creator leaving it entirely, the series' future is looking dire these days. However, if early reports are to be believed it might be making a triumphant return soon with a new story campaign.
Ainsley Bowden, the Editor-in-Chief of Seasoned Gaming, let slip in a recent podcast that, according to his sources, a new Halo campaign is in the works. "It is part of the restructure that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal," Bowden added. However, he was quick to clarify that we shouldn't expect to see this project anytime soon:
"I don't know--if I'm a betting man, I think I told a friend the other day that the earliest I would expect to see another Halo singleplayer campaign outside of Firefight and stuff they're doing in Infinite, is a couple years. It's going to be a while so don't hold your breath."
Will The New Campaign Be Halo Infinite DLC or Its Own Game?
Given that this new Halo campaign is reportedly being developed in a new engine, I would hazard a guess that it'll be part of an entirely different game. It seems like both 343 and Halo fans are eager to leave Infinite and its troubles behind. Whether it has any relation to 343's Halo Battle Royale project or even references to the Halo TV show was not mentioned, presumably because very little of the singleplayer campaign is set in stone yet.
Personally, I'm surprised that 343 gets to take another shot at the franchise after their past few years of supporting Halo Infinite so poorly. Still, this is exciting news for Halo fans who were hoping for a revival of the series. Whether this new project turns out to be that remains to be seen, but you can be sure that we'll be following it closely!
