MultiVersus is the new Smash Bros, and everybody seems to be playing it right now. But what if you have a PlayStation and want to crossplay with someone with a Xbox? Is playing cross-platform possible? And if so, how do you do it? We've got all the answeres for you here.
MultiVersus is the kind of game you want to play with your mates. This is not a single-player grind fest, it's a casual beat 'em up that borders on being a party game. So, what do you need? Well, friends of course, but sadly, we can't help you there (...or can we?), and a couple of copies of MultiVersus. But what if you and your friends get copies of the game for different platforms? What if you're on PlayStation, and they're on Xbox? Can you play MultiVersus cross-platform together? Let's take a look.
What Platforms Is MultiVersus Available On?
MultiVersus will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (Windows), with no plans to bring it out on the Nintendo Switch. We're not sure why it's not coming out on the Switch as this seems like the perfect platform, but Nintendo probably don't want Smash Bros to have to compete with such a similar title. Ah well, at least you can actually get a PS5 now, if you are on Switch.
Can You Play MultiVersus Cross-Platform?
Yes, MultiVersus is crossplay, so you can play with or against people on any platform, no matter what you're playing. Better yet, MultiVersus has cross-progression, so if you start playing on one platform, then move to another, you will carry across all of your unlocks and character progression. That feature exists in far fewer games than you might think, primarily because publishers want players to buy cosmetics twice.
Oh, and you can enable crossplay for console only. So if you're on PlayStation and you don't want to deal with cheaters, then you can turn on crossplay for console anyway and avoid having to play with PC users. Now that's a feature we badly need in every game...

How To Play MultiVersus Cross-Platform
Here's how you can play MultiVersus cross-platform:
- Open up MultiVersus and sign in, on any platform
- Navigate to the settings by selecting the cog at the bottom of the menu on the left
- Select the Online/Legal section within the settings
- On the "cross-platform matchmaking" box, you can select a number of options from the drop-down list:
- To enable crossplay: You can leave the box as is because it should be set to crossplay by default
- To disable crossplay: Select "disable" from the drop-down list
- To enable console-only crossplay: Select "console-only" from the drop-down list.
- Save your settings, and return to the main menu.
Congratulations, you've just enabled/disabled crossplay on MultiVersus!
