New World is getting a new expansion soon! But will it bring enough players back to the MMORPG and save the game?
New World: Amazon Gaming's own open world MMO that was released in September 2021 and seemed to be pretty popular. At least for a while.
If you've ever played the MMO-RPG, you'll know that the game lets you dive into a world set in the mid-seventeenth century, where you can colonize a new fictional land called Aeternum.
You can choose to join one of three factions: the Covenant, Marauders, or Syndicate to fight for or protect your faction's territory together. With swords, guns and magic, you would think the game has it all! But is it enough to just offer cool fights and weapons?
Even though the game seems interesting enough for it to garner a larger fan base, player numbers have been dropping rapidly.
According to SteamDB, New World had over 900,000 simultaneous players back in September 2021 at its peak, but it had quickly lost a large portion of those just a year later.
With around 130,000 players in October 2022 New World may have had fewer players, but still had a pretty solid fan and player base, though some already thought the game was dead back then.
But now, just 10 months later, over 100,000 of those players have stopped playing. Did the game just lose its replayability? What could save New World?
New World Expansion Announced
Amazon Gaming doesn't seem to have lost all hope in the game, they've just announced that they'll be releasing an expansion for New World on October 3, 2023!
The expansion is called "Rise of the Angry Earth" and will cost $29.99/€28.99 if you want to expand your base game. If you don't already have New World, you can buy the base game along with the expansion for $69.99/€68.99.
You don't need an Amazon account to play New World, either, just a Steam account.
