The hyped-up release of Overwatch 2 has been marred by network issues hitting both PC and console players, who have been unable to join in on the fun.
It's been a tumultuous road but Blizzard was hoping a smooth Overwatch 2 launch could be the start of their mission to mend things with the community that saw the original game die down without any meaningful updates for over two years.
Sadly, a DDoS attack has made sure the hyped-up release of Overwatch 2, a free-to-play PvP experience that rebalances the original experience in major ways, will be remembered as an absolute fumble.
Failed to Connect to Game Server Error Plagues Overwatch 2 Launch Day
If you're simply unable to login into the game no matter how hard you try, believe us when we tell you you're not alone. According to Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment, a DDoS attack is causing issues in an already busy day for the Overwatch 2 servers.
Unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues. https://t.co/4GwrfHEiBE

Of course, fans were expecting a queue of some sorts while trying to join in on the fun, particularly since, as we mentioned, the game has shifted from a traditional AAA model to a free-to-play title with seasonal updates and a battle pass to grind cosmetics such as skins, weapon charms, voice lines, emotes, and much more.
When will the servers be back up and fixed is anyone's guess, especially due to Blizzard's lack of communication with its player base, a constant problem the Overwatch community has had to endure the past few years and an aspect in which this small indie company could certainly improve upon.
