What Platforms Is Overwatch 2 Released For?
In terms of platforms, Overwatch 2 will basically be available for every gamer: Overwatch 2 will be released on the PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
Sadly, in an Activision Blizzard company call, CFO Dennis Durkin confirmed that the game will not be released in 2021. Bummer. Still, a proper release is better than a rushed disaster and a 2022 release date for Overwatch is basically confirmed:
“The pipeline is progressing really well, and we anticipate that 2022 will be a great year for Blizzard.”
Overwatch 2 PvE Will Have Larger & More Complex Maps
What we do know is that Overwatch 2 will feature PvE story missions and have much beefier maps. For the PvE missions we will get an actual narrative and AI interaction, with maps more complex than the likes of Retribution and Storm Rising. Expect co-op missions that are quite lengthy and offer solid enemy variety and enemy-hero interaction.
We love it.
Will Overwatch 2 Have Better Graphics & Crossplay?
This should come as no surprise: Yes, Overwatch 2 will have better graphics. In fact, the game will run on an updated engine.
If you are now worried that this means Overwatch 2 will not feature crossplay and cross-progression – don't worry: Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will have crossplay and cross-progression. The games will share a player base and new PVP maps, PvE game modes and heroes will be made available to all Overwatch players and not be exclusive to Overwatch 2.
With an updated engine, better graphics and a PvE mode we gotta be honest: We're kind of hyped for Overwatch 2. The little cinematic trailers have always been a highlight and, let's be real: The lore of Overwatch was just begging to be explored.
Glad to see Blizzard is finally taking the right steps and this might just be the boost the franchise needs to get back to former glory.
