Razer has announced a new handheld, that they've been developing in partnership with Verizon: The Razer Edge 5G.
What is it with handhelds and bad names? We just got the incredibly dumb-sounding Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld and now Razer follows that up by calling their handheld Razer Edge 5G? Sure, it's a trillion times better than whatever Logitech was thinking, but it still sounds much more like a phone than a handheld, but hey... thank you for sponsoring out EarlyGame Awards, Razer.
Razer Announces New Steam Deck Competition
Notice how I'm not even bothering to say Switch competition? Yeah, because you need at least 4K resolution to enter this conversation. Sorry, Nintendo. The Razer Edge 5G is not just cloud-based gaming - like the name might suggest - it actually allows you to play games locally as well, much of which will be revealed at Razer's upcoming RazerCon event.
For now, all we erally got is first glimpses at the hardware, and the proud label of "world's first 5G Gaming Handheld". Yeah... they're so proud of that, that they put 5G in the name... I still can't get over that...
BREAKING: @Verizon, @Razer and @Qualcomm are teaming up on the world's first 5G mobile gaming handheld-Razer Edge 5G! It will allow you to play your favorite games regardless of whether you are gaming in the cloud, on an app or streaming from your console. https://t.co/TYPw5xFyeF pic.twitter.com/F9Vg3CfABl

Since Razer has published what's easily the best controller for mobile gaming, I have high hopes for this one, but remain curious how local gaming is going to work. Another point of interest is the price, which has not been revealed yet. With the Steam Deck going for $400 and the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld going for $350, Razer can probably do some serious damage if they somehow manage to sell their handheld for around $250, but... that's unlikely. As a handheld fan, I'm still super excited for this one, and hope Razer brings their a-game. Stay tuned for RazerCon on October 15, which will offer a full reveal of the Razer Edge 5G.
