Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the much-anticipated sequel to the highly successful Jedi: Fallen Order from 2019, Respawn Entertainment's first foray into 3rd person action adventures. Here's everything you need to know about Jedi: Survivor, including the release date and details surrounding the gameplay and story. Unfortunately, fans have to wait a little longer for the game than expected.
In 2019, Respawn Entertainment, known for their first-person shooters Apex Legends and Titanfall, took the gaming world by surprise with the release of Jedi: Fallen Order. The game was a huge success critically and commercially, so of course a sequel was inevitable.
And after waiting for a long time, it has been finally announced: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, not Fallen Order 2, is the name of the sequel, continuing the "Jedi" brand of games after the first outing.
Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars games and action games in recent years, reminding us of the feeling we had when we played Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy many years ago. But it still had a lot of untapped potential, different aspects of the game had plenty of room for improvement. Here's where the sequel could come in and sweep away fans.
What do we know about the game though? EA has revealed the release date and some details about the highly anticipated game via multiple trailers. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming game ahead of its release in March.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Release Date: EA Delays Fallen Order Sequel
The release date of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been revealed at the Game Awards 2022. The Fallen Order Sequel was supposed come out on March 17, 2023 for PC, Xbox Series and PS5 , but in the end of January, EA announced that Jedi: Survivor will be delayed and the new release date is now April 28, 2023. The game being a next-gen exclusive is super exciting and promises a big jump forward graphically and technically.
Of course there will be a nice pre-order bonus in the form of in-game cosmetics and also two books, which will come out at around the same time as the release of the game. The prequel book Star Wars Battle Scars will release on March 7, and the official art book for Jedi: Survivor comes out on May 2.
The Gameplay Looks Amazing
From what we have seen in trailers and heard from EA, the gameplay looks like it will be significantly expanded. In the Game Awards trailer, you see Cal use a grappling hook, a blaster and mounts, among other new things that weren't in the first game.
Game director Stig Asmussen confirmed in an interview with Game Informer, that there will be tameable mounts, as well as different stances in combat, including one featuring the blaster. The five stances will be used with different types of lightsabers, like the dual sword or the Kylo Ren-style crossguard sword.
This system sounds very similar to Ghost of Tsushima, and that's definitely a good thing. In that game, it gave the combat a lot of depth and made the encounters more interesting. We hope for a similar effect in Jedi: Survivor.
How The Story of Cal Kestis And The Jedi Continues
Survivor is set to be a direct sequel to Fallen Order, set five years after the events of the first games. The first "Jedi" game took place five years after "Revenge of the Sith" and was mostly centered around a bunch of characters that were completely new to the Star Wars universe.
You play as Cal Kestis, a young Padawan persecuted by a group of Sith trained by Darth Vader. Together with the rebels Cere Junda and Greez Dritus, and the cute drone BD-1, Cal follows the path of the former Jedi Master Eno Cordova in order to find the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. We won't spoil how the events unfold exactly, in case you haven't played it yet.
The sequel will be set multiple years after the events of Fallen Order. Cal and his friends are still being hunted by the empire and are on the run. Many concrete details haven't been revealed yet, EA only published a short description of the game.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit as he continues to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy
We still don't know too many details about the story of Jedi: Survivor. However, in the Game Awards trailer, we see new characters and another taste of the somewhat darker atmosphere. Let's hope the writing is as fun as in the first game. As soon as we know more about characters and plot, we will update this section of the article.
