With over 1,000 planets to explore, Starfield's playtime was expected to be huge. But now it turns out that the main campaign is a lot shorter than most fans anticipated. Here's what you can expect of the Starfield playtime.
Bethesda's Starfield is one of the most anticipated games in recent memory, and now it's finally here. The game promises a whole galaxy with over 1,000 planets to explore. Normally, Bethesda's titles, like The Elder Scrolls Series or Fallout, offer the player several hundreds of hours of playtime. With missions, quests, or base building.
So how long will it take us to go through the main story campaign in Starfield?

Starfield Playtime: A Lot To Do, But Not In The Main Campaign
Technically, you could play most Bethesda titles for a very, very long time, and Starfield is no exception. With a whole galaxy to explore, the game offers tons of stuff to do – at least for players that are willing to discover and try everything that the game has to offer.
Players that are just aiming to play the main story campaign will have a way shorter experience in Starfield – even shorter than expected. A while ago, Starfield Producer Todd Howard revealed that the main campaign will probably have around 30 to 40 hours of content. But according to HowLongToBeat, the main story will take players only about 17.5 hours of playtime.
Starfield Companions: Every Confirmed Crewmate
This number is surprising, even when compared to other Bethesda titles. For example, according to HowLongToBeat, you will need roughly 34h to complete the Skyrim main story line, and round about 27h for the Fallout 4 campaign. But it will take you far, far longer to explore the in-game worlds and try everything out there.
Maybe the developers will have put in some more content into the campaign in the future. Either way, including the side quests there should be enough to fill multiple hours with fun for everyone who wants to enjoy the game to the fullest and try all features.
