Starfield will be a huge game in all dimensions. Having companions is a big part of the game and the relationships with them will be important. Now, Todd Howard explained a "limit" to the depth of some relationships.
In a galaxy filled with over 1000 planets, it can get lonely sometimes. So it's even more important to find people to hang out and travel with. Maybe the love of your life is out there, amongst the stars.
In a recent Interview with Kinda Funny Games, Bethesda's Todd Howard talked about the companion and romance system. Sadly, he revealed, that you can't love them all - here is why.
Starfield Romances: You Can't Love Them All
It's already announced that, just like in many other Bethesda games, you will have the opportunity to gather companions around you. All of them will have different skills and perks that can help you during your travels and missions. It's important to have a good relationship with them, as Howard explained:
They can, depending on the choices you make, get angry with you. And then the relationship that you have with the companion can change based on the decision you're making in the game.
One fan question in the show, lead Howard to explain the relationship system a little bit further, especially with the topic of romances. The fan asked: Are the constellation companions the only ones that are able to be romanced? Howard answered in short fashion:
The four main constellation ones are the ones that support full questlines for them and romance
So it might the case that in a galaxy filled with over 1000 planets and possibly trillions of inhabitants, you have the choice of building a romantic relationship with four human beings (and one robot). It's currently not known if this is only regarding long term and deeper romantic relationships or all romantic relationships.
Maybe players will have the option to have more "frivolous" relationships with other NPCs. Let's be honest, nobody wants to have a deeper thing with the Adoring Fan, right? Right?!
