In a surprise announcement, Blizzard has now revealed that they are officially bringing the Warcraft franchise to mobile. Here's everything you need to know.
Warcraft on mobile, huh? Who would've thought? Well... actually... me. I thought that. To be exact, I thought that Blizzard is bringing something to mobile, and assumed it'd be Starcraft or Warcraft. Yes, look at that: EarlyGame, we actually know our sh*t. But, aside from bragging that I told you so, we, of course, also have news on what exactly Warcraft coming to mobile means:
Warcraft Is Coming To Mobile This Year
Yes, you read that right: Warcraft is still coming to mobile this year. After rumors around a Warcraft mobile game have been around since 2017, things are now moving rather fast. Here's what Blizzard revealed in their quarterly earnings report:
We're planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and getting all-new mobile Warcraft content into players’ hands for the first time.
I know a lot of people don't like big IPs coming to mobile, and many still hate on Diablo Immortal, but I'm here to say: I love this. Seriously. Mobile gaming is amazing because it's accessible to most people, yet the sad thing about the mobile gaming market is that it's flooded with trash and cash-grabs. Too many games are gacha or just trying to get you to buy loot boxes. If we got some real developers making real games for mobile platforms, it'd change the perception and the player base. Blizzard stepping up by bringing their big IPs to mobile devices is a giant step in that direction.
So, yes, this Warcraft news has me hyped. It should be noted, however, that we don't know which Warcraft is coming to mobile. Is it a top-down strategy game? Is it World of Warcraft? Is it a new Warcraft game altogether? We don't know, but since the release date is set for 2022, it won't be long until we find out.
