In WoW Hardcore, the Light of Elune is probably one of the best items to survive a critical situation, especially if you macro it with your hearthstone. In our detailed step-by-step quest guide, we show you how to get the Light of Elune in WoW Classic Hardcore and how to macro it with your hearthstone.
If you haven't died in WoW Classic Hardcore yourself, you will probably have witnessed other players getting killed by an unintentional pull or bad luck in terms of mob respawn (or, most frustratingly, because of a disconnect). While you can actually play a super safe strategy when doing quests, things can always get critical in dungeons, since it's not just about what you're doing, but whether the whole group plays safely or not.
When facing such a critical situation in a dungeon, like for example pulling tons of mobs in the last hallway in Gnomeregan because someone stood too close to the ledge (which seems to happen to every second group), a wipe is almost inevitable. But there is a way out: the Light of Elune.
What Is The Light of Elune In World of Warcraft?
The screenshot basically tells you everything you need to know about the item and why it's so powerful in Classic Hardcore: When using the Light of Elune, you get immune to all kinds of damage for 10 seconds. The Light of Elune can become a real lifesaver in combination with your hearthstone, especially when macroing it (more on that later).
Who Can Use The Light of Elune?
Every Horde player will probably be very disappointed to hear this, but the Light of Elune can only be claimed by the Alliance, since it's part of an Alliance-only quest and neither buyable nor a world drop. However, as an Alliance player you should be aware that you can use this item only one single time! So make sure to not unintentionally use it, but just when there is no other way out.
How To Get the Light of Elune In WoW Classic Hardcore: Quest Guide
The Light of Elune is a reward from a short quest line which starts at Mystral Lake in southern Ashenvale. Take a look at the screenshot to find out where exactly it is located. We recommend having at least reached level 26 or higher before you take on the quest.
The fastest way to get to Ashenvale is to fly to Astranaar. If you haven't activated the flight point yet, start from Auberdine in Darkshore, then walk south until you reach Astranaar and then head on to Mystral Lake. Once you've reached it, talk to the Sentinel Velene Starstrike to start the quest.
Your first task is to kill Water Elementals in Mystral Lake and to loot five Intact Elemental Bracers from them. As soon as you've collected all bracers, use the Divined Scroll item in your bag to complete the quest.
The Elementals are at about level 27 and can cast Frostnova, so make sure to stay either above water or have an Elixir of Water Breathing with you to not drown.
The follow-up quest takes you to the Barrens to kill the NPC Sarilus Foulborne, an undead mage. Make sure to not take the way through Stonetalon Mountains, but through the passage in southeast Ashenvale (Coordinates: 68/83). Attention: Do not walk through the Horde camp, the guards will most likely kill you. Instead, walk around it by taking the path on the left that is marked on the screenshot.
Now that you're in the Barrens, this is your go-to point:
The best way to get there is to walk up the mountain you see in the next screenshot – you'll eventually face it when walking towards the location of the NPC.
Once the path becomes too steep, walk left until you reach the top of the mountain, where you will face Sarilus Foulborne. Even though he is only Level 25, don't underestimate him, since he will spawn three water elemental adds (they don't have much HP, though), plus there are additional mobs around him which you'll want to avoid.
If Sarilus Foulborne has just been killed by another player and you don't want to wait, try a layer change.
Once you've defeated Sarilus Foulborne, loot his head and head back to Mystral Lake. Congratulations – you're now getting the Light of Elune as a reward for your efforts! The only thing left to do now is correctly macroing it.
Shandrina, the NPC right behind Sentinel Velene Starstrike, sells the Expert Cookbook which you need if you want to skill Cooking up to 225. Since it's the only way to get the Cookbook apart from buying it in the Auction House, we strongly recommend buying it.
How To Create a Light of Elune + Hearthstone Macro
Now that the Eye of Elune is yours, the best idea to use it is in combination with your hearthstone to port away from critical situations, like an unintended dungeon mass pull. So open up the Macro menu by typing /macro into the chat, create a new macro and then fill in the following macro command:
#showtooltip Light of Elune/use Light of Elune/use Hearthstone
You're almost good to go, there are only two things you should keep in mind:
- Only use the Light of Elune when your GCD is not ticking to ensure that both items are activated right after each other.
- The Light of Elune shares its cooldown with potions, so do not use a mana or health potion before.
Furthermore, be aware that there is still a tiny chance that the macro won't save you, since the mob might hit you in the millisecond where the Light of Elune effect fades. However, a possible second chance is still better than no second chance at all. And that's it! Good luck on your further journey and stay safe!
