Everyone assumed that the upcoming Zelda game would be called Breath of the Wild 2, but here we are... the new Zelda trailer revealed a brand-new title.
We've been waiting for Breath of the Wild 2 news for the longest time, but we didn't expect this: The game is not actually going to get the customary 2 attached to it. Instead, this one is going by the name of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On the one hand, I love the title, on the other hand, I'm wondering who in our team is going to have to update all those Breath of the Wild 2 articles...
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Revealed
Obviously the trailer shows off the usual: Exploration, new powers, landscapes... best to watch rather than read. What's not in the trailer, though, is the press release that was released alongside the visuals:
In addition to the vast lands of Hyrule, the latest entry in the storied Legend of Zelda series will take you up into the skies and an expanded world that goes beyond that!
So, Nintendo finally confirmed what we all expected: Breath of the Wild 2... I mean Tears of the Kingdom will take us vertical. Well... more vertical than the towers in BotW already did.
Of course, the trailer reveal came with the mandatory release date, and we now know that Tears of the Kingdom - formerly known as Breath of the Wild 2 - will be released on May 12, 2023.
