Hwei is the new artistic Midlaner that will hit the rift soon. Here is all we know about him so far.
The brooding painter Hwei is the next addition to the League of Legends Champion Roster.
Hwei Lore: The Visionary Is Joining League of Legends
Hwei is originally out of Ionia. After the Noxian Invasion, the balance of the Ionians with nature was ruptured and Ionia left behind savaged and destroyed. While all the different tribes and races in Ionia always lived in peace, they are now split into two ideologies. Either go back to the old traditional pacifist ways or to militarize the once peaceful land to fight back the Noxians.
While monks and warriors discuss these politics, Hwei has found his own way to help Ionia. He creates brilliant art to confront the enemies of Ionia and to comfort their victims.
Hwei has spent his early life in an Ionian temple on the small island Koyehn. In this famed artistic temple, he mastered the art of painting through learning precision and balance. This was necessary to wield the strong power of artistic magic. But Hwei has always had a strong Imagination and when he wanted to combine it with his talent of painting, the temple masters intervened. They told him to focus more on the traditional practices.
So he does. But he develops a duality and paints his expressive and emotional style alone after his temple studies. His art is brilliant, he thrives at the temple and becomes a well-respected member of the community, while practicing his true art in secret. He has become fascinated but also fearful of it — his own power, the full extent of it.
So his life continued like that until one fateful day when another artist arrived at the doors of the Koyehn temple. A remarkable artist that got close to Hwei only to leave in a crescendo of destruction, altering Hwei's life forever.
Jhin betrayed Hwei, but at the same time understood his art like no one else. Hwei was devastated and full of questions. On his quest for answers he sets out into greater Ionia beeing kind and empathic but also confrontational and intense. Solemn and broody, but not defeated.
Hwei was always somebody that didn't care how he looks. His focus was always the perfection of his craft. He lets his expressive art speak for him and uses it as means to convey his feelings and emotions. The darkness inside of him understands Jhin's limitless and destructive expressions, but Hwei's kindness allows him to hold onto his inner light.
