League of Legends: What Is Different In Season 14?
This ranked League of Legends season is going to be quite different from the previous one. Earlier in Season 13, Riot added in the Emerald rank between Platinum and Diamond to try and even out the difficulty curve. The rank will continue to stick around in LoL Season 14.
Not only is Emerald staying around, but Riot is also going to be changing the ranked system in 2024. In 2023 they added splits to the ranked season, to add more incentive for players to keep grinding ranked. While two splits were good, the team feels that it would be better to split it up further.
So, in LoL Season 14, Riot is going to be adding in another split. This means, that the first ranked split will kick off in January until May, the second will last until September and the final split will end in January 2025, similar to how it will end this year.
League of Legends Ranked Reset In 2024
As is normal with a new ranked season, Riot will be resetting everyone's rank, meaning they have to play some games to be put into the correct tier for their skill before they can start the ranked grind in 2024. But, what exactly is a ranked reset in detail?
For a new ranked season, Riot usually has a hard reset, which means that a ranked players MMR (Matchmaking Rank) is going to be adjusted. There are a few factors that are taken into account after the rank and MMR are reset and the player starts their climb once more.
The highest achievable rank in the game's ranked ladder is "Challenger," and it represents the top 200 players in each region.
- Provisional Matches: After the reset, players are required to play a set of provisional matches. These matches determine their initial rank for the new season based on their performance. Winning most of these matches can lead to a higher starting rank.
- Previous Season Performance: Your final rank and MMR from the previous season influence your initial placement. If you were a higher-ranked player, you're likely to start the new season closer to your previous rank.
- Climb and Adjust: After the reset, players need to climb the ladder again, which may involve moving through ranks they've already achieved. The goal is to reach and surpass their previous rank, demonstrating their skill and improvement.
Overall, the ranked reset keeps the ranked environment competitive and encourages players to continue striving for improvement in League of Legends.
