The next entry in the Payday franchise is only a few weeks away and the devs are updating us regularly. But the latest announcement is rather disappointing.
In the past weeks, Starbreeze Studio informed us about every little detail about their upcoming game Payday 3 and the progress they made over the years. Their next installment will release in September, 21 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S.
While unveiling more details about the upcoming cooperative first-person shooter that takes you to heists within New York, they also confirmed the existence of two different modes and the requirement of an online connection.
Payday 3: Being Online Is Mandatory
The global brand director, Almir Listo, confirmed on a recent livestream, that Payday 3 includes both multiplayer and solo game modes. Both require an online connection no matter what.
This means, even if you aren't playing with other people or just with the bots provided from the game itself, you won't be able to play the game offline.
Listo explained:
This decision was made because Payday 3 supports cross-progression and crossplay, so an internet connection is required to save players' data and transfer it from one platform to another.
The Fans Are Frustrated About The Changes In Payday 3
The fans who watched the livestream took the chance and expressed their frustration about the required online connection. Many people wish they could play Payday 3 offline without the need of being online. Especially those who aren't interested in the cross-progression feature or have a terrible internet connection at home.
Several comments expressed their disappointment for this decision and even take it so far, stating they no longer want to play Payday 3. They rather switch to another heist-like game, before playing the game without the requested offline mode.
Since the online connection is mandatory after Starbreeze switched to the Nebula service, there probably won't be a chance of making Payday 3 an offline game for some of you.
