Developer 343 Industries has announced, that Halo Infinite will not get any new seasons. Instead, the game will only get smaller content updates from now on.
Halo Infinite has struggled a lot since its launch in November 2021, with the game often proclaimed as already being dead. Now, the actual end of the game looks closer than ever. In a recent livestream, Senior Community Manager at 343 Industries Jon Junyszek announced that Halo Infinite will not get any new seasons. Instead, the game will get new ‘operations’, shorter events that appear more frequently in the game.
Halo Infinite Is Not Getting New Seasons Anymore
Operations were introduced with season 5 and are short events that last for 4-6 weeks and include a free, 20-tier battle pass. This will be the way in which the game will continue to be supported with new cosmetics. This is closer to how 343 is supporting the Master Chief Collection.
That means that Infinite is not being completely abandoned and will continue to receive new content. But it’s a big reduction from what seasons used to offer and, for some fans, feels like the first step towards slowly phasing out continuous support for Halo Infinite.
This news caused a mixed reaction on the game’s subreddit. Some fans are happy, as this shift means that new content will get into the game more quickly: “Honestly I’d prefer more operations. This way we can get more items cycling into rotation from old operations as well.” Others see this as the beginning of the end of Halo Infinite: “Hate to say it to me this more than anything confirms we ain't getting 10 years of infinite.”
For the time being, the game will still receive new content, including the cosmetics through Operation passes and even some maps. However, these are primarily Forge maps that are being officially integrated in the game.
Part of why this change is happening now, is related to 343 apparently having some projects in development. Junyszek briefly talked about this in the livestream: “We have a dedicated team working on Halo Infinite, continuing to deliver going forward. But we also have additional teams now, accelerating towards the future, working on brand new projects.”
