A hunter is a hunter, even in a kart racer that's finally set to release this coming January.
Remember all those jokes back in the 2000s about every game inevitably getting a kart racing spinoff? Well, it seems like it's finally Bloodborne's turn, though not in an official sense: Bloodborne Kart, a fan project turning one of FromSoftware's most beloved Souls-likes into a PSX-style kart racer, is releasing soon, on January 31.
This news was shared through a new trailer by its developers, FanSoftware (not to be confused with any other similarly named dev teams). The trailer is absolutely worth watching by itself, trust me:
If these crunchy PS1 Bloodborne models look familiar to you, you might be thinking of BloodbornePSX, a previous project by the same dev team – and technically the only PC version of Bloodborne, despite very high demand for an official one. In a way, the PSX demake was the first new piece of Bloodborne content fans had gotten since the release of the game's first and only DLC back in 2015.
Why did FanSoftware decide to follow that up with a kart racing spinoff? Well, Bloodborne Kart is actually a bit of a community in-joke born from a fake joke leak in 2017. And since FanSoftware already had all these Bloodborne assets lying around, they apparently decided to reuse them to make the joke a reality!
Bloodborne Kart: Grant Us Features
They're milking this joke for all it's worth too, if the list of features in the trailer description is anything to go by:
Bloodborne Kart: RELEASING 1/31/2024! ➡ 12 racers!➡ 16 maps!➡ Full single player campaign mode!➡ Boss fights!➡ Local split screen multiplayer!➡ VS Battle mode!
I can't deny that the single player campaign has me intrigued. A "Bloodborne, But You Also Have A Car Now" campaign is a hilarious concept that I'm more than willing to give a shot! The Micolash boss fight should be especially cathartic this way. And when you're tired of watching him sprint though his obnoxious nightmare maze anyway, you could get some of your friends together for some local multiplayer! And maybe get in some cardio yourself:
If all that sounds like it'd be right up your alley, then sharpen your trick weapon and gear up your racing... contraption, to make sure you'll be ready to hit the streets of Yharnam when Bloodborne Kart releases on January 31.
