After the five-game showdown between Rogue and Fnatic, it was time to return to the lower bracket. G2 Esports, who had swept Team Vitality on Friday, now faced Misfits Gaming. The two teams were very close during the regular season, yet Misfits outperformed their rivals with several memorable comeback wins. Would they be able to pull a rabbit out of a hat again or would G2 have their vengeance?

Clean Sweep

The series started well for G2 who found several early kills in the opening game. Misfits picked a hard draft and with both solo lanes struggling quickly found themselves behind in gold and levels. A few G2 missteps and solid teamfighting let Misfits find some successes in the mid-game, but they could not turn the game around. Eventually, G2 found their big fight, and a big wombo combo after a Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski flank saw them ace Misfits and close out the game.

G2’s strong early game continued in the second game. After Rasmus "caPs" Winther and Jankos roamed bot to get two early kills, Misfits were left struggling across the board and fell over 5K gold up in the first 15 minutes. Victor "Flakked" Lirola on Aphelios was fed as well and with advantages in all lanes, G2 were firmly in control. An attempt to contest the infernal soul ended in a 0-4 for Misfits and soon, they had to watch their Nexus fall again.

Misfits were more proactive in the third game, but it was still not enough to overcome G2’s clean and aggressive early game. Caps’ Cassiopeia quickly came online after a triple kill 11 minutes in and he led the team to a strong midgame. Misfits tried to trade objectives with the pressure generated by Shin "HiRit" Tae-min’s Fiora, but G2 would not be denied. A won teamfight in the jungle 21 minutes in gave G2 clear route to the Baron and with it, they closed out with ease to complete the 3-0 sweep.
