Riot has slowly been updating older champion models to make them look a bit better and to add some clarity into their kit. Janna is next on the list after successful VFX Updates for Fizz, Leona and Shaco.
Every once in a while Riot takes an older champion and gives them a few visual updates. These updates aren't on the same scale as an ASU or a VGU, instead they're there to improve a champions' abilities to make them clearer and more readable for players.
So it's time we check out the new VFX update for our favorite bot lane enchanter Janna, since she is one of the older champions in League of Legends and she is in need of some texture and particle updates. It's only a matter of time until she is also on the VGU poll, right?
What is Riot Updating in Janna's VFX Update?
Before we start going over all the changes that Janna will receive let's first explain what a VFX Update even entails. Basically, VFX stands for visual effects, so the effects of her abilities will be updated and cleaned.
Riot Pehrek, Quality Assurance Engineer from the Riot Champions Team explained why they chose Janna for the next VFX update, stating that they are looking to update the readability of her abilities, as well as optimize them and finally help define the character's identity further.
This is similar to what Riot had done for Fizz not too long ago, and Leona as well earlier this season.

Janna VFX Update Release Date
This update is going to make it onto the PBE server this week, which means we will likely get it on live servers for LoL Patch 12.19. This is going to be just in time for the League of Legends World Championship, but we won't see the VFX update in action, since the event is being played on Patch 12.18.
