Janna top, Soraka mid, what else happened during the first week of the 2022 LCS Sping Split?
The LCS kicked off this weekend with some insane plays. Who would have thought that Soraka mid was a thing and that we would be seeing the ominous Janna top meta make an appearance in pro play.
But all that happened, so let’s quickly go over some of the biggest highlights that the LCS had to offer in the 2022 debut.
Believe In The Church Of LS
So we already mentioned Soraka mid. We all remember Lulu top or even Soraka top being a thing a few years ago, but with the current state of the game, enchanters seem to be viable in every single lane and situation.
At the beginning of the 2022 season, Cloud9 picked up Nick "LS" De Cesare who was known for supporting some more controversial picks in League of Legends. The org has let LS take full reign of their League of Legends team, and she is making a statement by letting his team go wild.
Soraka mid? Yeah, it works. Sure, Golden Guardians didn’t have too many bright moments in their loss against Cloud9, but it shows that some of the more outlandish picks really do work in League of Legends. Everyone has now been indoctrinated into the church of LS.
The Bottom of the Pack
TSM, CLG, Golden Guardians and Immortals did not show their full potential in the first week of the 2022 LCS Spring Split. These four teams went 0-2 in their first two best-of-1s and will have a lot to improve on.
TSM couldn’t hold off Zeri in her debut in the LCS, with Evil Genius going full speed ahead after the LCS Lock In. Both CLG and Immortals were forgettable throughout the weekend as well and hopefully show better form next week.
Top Dogs In The LCS
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum was Cloud9, 100 Thieves, Dignitas and FlyQuest who all went 2-0 to start off the 2022 LCS Spring Split. FlyQuest pulled off their Janna smite top perfectly against CLG.
100 Thieves left their Lock In woes behind and managed to dominate in their first games, showing why they were the number one NA team at the end of the 2021 season. Dignitas was another surprise, but they showed what they can do in the Lock In tournament, having surprised everyone when they made it into the semi-finals.
Lock In Finals Competitors Are Mid-Tier
Both Evil Genius and Team Liquid won a game and lost a game. They’re both in the middle of the pack. With their busy schedule after the Lock in event, they could have maybe missed a few days of scrims, hence, why neither team performed as expected.
There are still a lot of weeks left in the season, and anything can change. Will the church of LS continue to grow with more crazy picks? We will have to wait to find out as we continue to follow the 2022 Spring Split.
