A new LoL champion has been revealed. We've known about the Ink Mage for a while, but now Riot has finally given them a name 'Hwei' and mid laners couldn't be more excited.
At the start of the 2023 League of Legends season, Riot revealed plans for multiple new champions like Milio, Naafiri and the "Hangry Jungler" Briar. There was also a short mention of an upcoming "artisitc mid laner" but the champion has stayed pretty mysterious throughout 2023.
Now, months later, we finally get some news on the mid lane mage, and a name has been revealed – Hwei. This new champion will shake up the mid lane and bring new colors to the role.
LoL New Champion: Hwei Introduced In Latest Champion Roadmap
Mid laners beware, a new mage is ready to make his entrance onto Summoner's Rift. It seems like this champion will have gone through quite a journey before making it to League of Legends, at least judging by the way Lexi "Lexical" Gao described in the most recent League of Legends Champion Roadmap.
While we might not have a picture of the champion himself, we do get a painting from him in bright and beautiful colors showing an abstract scene. We also get to find out a bit about his personality which seems to be close to the tortured artist.
There are three specific subjects he seems especially interested in expressing. And make no mistake: though the artist is very much somber, his art is visually stunning.
Isa Mari “Riot orkidian” De Leon, Hwei's narrative writer, also added on that it was quite an emotional journey to bring the mid laner to life.
There are probably a lot of little hints in the Champion Roadmap for the champion and his abilities, but other than guesses we don't have much to go on this time around. Hwei will be the first mage since the release of Vex back in Summer of 2021.
Unfortunately there isn't a release in sight yet, though many believe him to come either late 2023 or early 2024. We will have to be patient to find out the exact date.
