One of the oldest competitive League of Legends Teams, CLG, will no longer exist and the whole esports organization around it will be shut down over the following weeks. Who will take their LCS spot, and what happens to the employees?
Every legends' story will come to an end and now it's CLGs time to say goodbye. Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) was founded in April 2010 and covers a wide variety of games including several esports teams within their organization. Thirteen years later, CLG is confirmed to be sold, and big changes are ahead for all people involved.
CLG In The LCS: Who Will Take Their Slot?
In the coming LCS Summer Split 2023, CLG will retain their spot in the competition until the end of the sales process. CLG's parent company, The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG), is looking to sell their LCS slot, with esports org NRG likely to take the offer. NRG is no stranger to the competition since they already held an LCS slot back in 2016 and now they are looking forward to joining it again after the transaction is done.
CLG Staff Layoffs Quicker Than Expected
Not only did we get caught off guard earlier today hearing about the surprising news, even the CLG staff members have to deal with the consequences of the unexpected decision made by the MSG Company as well. Starting on the 6th of April, even the head of CLG, Greg Kim, will be not evade the following layoffs.

Not only the behind the scenes members of the company will be affected, but all of CLGs competitive gaming rosters have to find new opportunities to get stay in the business. First and foremost their League of Legends team, which will be retained as long as possible throughout the split.
The team currently consists of:
- Niship “Dhokla” Doshi in Toplane
- Juan Arturo “Contractz” Garcia in the Jungle
- Cristian “Palafox” Palafox on Midlane
- Fatih “Luger” Güven on Botlane
- Philippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere as Support
- Apollo “Apollo” Price as Botlane substitute
Time will tell, if the roster can keep playing together as a team or if NRG has made up a new crew which is ready to hit Summoners Rift as soon as the new split starts on June 1, 2023.
To date CLG has not made an official statement about the situation but it is to be expected during the following days of the week.
