The year is 2019 and Riot just announced their upcoming FPS game, a card game, a fighting game and even an ARPG. Since then, we've also received games from Riot Forge, news on the potential LoL MMORPG, but... nothing regarding the RPG. Is it even still in development?
Riot has been hard at work making new games for us. A card game, an FPS game and each day we seem to be inching ever closer to an official reveal of the much-anticipated League of Legends MMMORPG. But, looking back at the 10-year anniversary of League of Legends we realize that one game Riot had announced back then hasn't gotten any love in the past three years.
During the big live-stream Riot revealed VALORANT, Legends of Runeterra, as well as Poject L which is the upcoming fighting game. Even Wild Rift got some love and then there was also Project F... an upcoming adventure RPG based in Runeterra.
Project F: Has the ARPG Been Cancelled?
Since the reveal of all the different games Riot was working on we've got news on all of them except for Project F. VALORANT and Wild Rift even got released, as well as Legends of Runeterra and we've had a few updates regarding Project L as well which could indicate that the game will be released sooner rather than later.
Project F hasn't had much of any updates though in the last three years which could have fans concerned whether it was cut before it ever had a chance to run, but worry not. The lead world designer on a Riot R&D team, Katie Chironis, has been tweeting about some upcoming job openings that could mean that there is still hope for Project F.
On September 6, 2022 she sent out a tweet stating that the team is currently "looking for gameplay engineers experienced in Unreal" and who "understand networked gameplay well". She went on to note that this is a PvE game that is not the LoL MMO.
Find out more about Project L and the potential champions:
What Is Known About Project F?
Truth be told, Project F is a complete mystery. Little has been talked about and we have to take the few breadcrumbs we've gotten over time. We do know that this game will play in Runeterra and give us access to the champions. In the 10-year-anniversary stream we saw some initial footage of Blitzcrank running around with Ezreal fighting against monsters.
I think we also all love to imagine the possibility of what would it be like to run around and explore the world of Runeterra. How could we enable experiences for players to go explore with their friends.
It'll likely be a dungeon crawler game with a great story, but at this point everything we say is just a pure guess since Riot hasn't made any official announcements regarding this adventure role playing game they're working on. Hopefully, we get an update soon, just like we did for Project L, where after the initial reveal it took another two-years until we got more footage and news during the Arcane event.
Will Champions Be Playable in Project F?
In the snipped from 2019 we can see footage of someone playing Blitzcrank, jumping around the screen and fighting off mobs of golden Void-like creatures. Alongside Blitzcrank are characters that look like Lux and Ezreal. Judging by the quote above, we could also see Project F being a multiplayer RPG. Maybe something like Genshin Impact where players can play in a party or solo objectives.
The possibilities are endless with this concept and we cannot wait to have more information from Riot regarding this ARPG. Please, we want more games!
