It's confirmed, a Void event is in the works! Why else would Riot be giving Vel'Koz a visual update?
Vel'Koz will be celebrating his eighth birthday in around a month. It seems like just yesterday that I binged the new Sp4zie episodes harder than the new season of Attack on Titan. Sadly, we've been seeing his age, and it's about time that our favorite tentacle monster is getting a facelift... or should we say, eye-lift?
Visual updates for older champions isn't anything new in League of Legends. We've received quite a few over the last few months, the biggest probably being the Caitlyn ASU. Vayne recently also got a glow up and Ahri is another champion on the list for updates. Now, we can say that not just cute anime girls get VFX updates, but cute h*ntai monsters as well!
Which VFX Updates Will Vel'Koz Receive?
It seems like all of Vel'Koz abilities will be getting a visual update. Riot will implement a whole lot of small changes to Vel'Koz' base skin that are going to make his abilities look much better since the current visuals stem from a time when the League of Legends map looked completely different.
Along with the new ability visuals, Riot will also adjust his hitbox. Especially his Q and W have landed some questionable hits in recent times. Therefore, these will be adjusted, so you can get your geometrical angles perfect.
His base form won't be changed visually. It seems like his abilities are the only thing that will be part of the update. So, if his base skin isn't getting any changes other than abilities, what will happen to the multitude of skins he has? Will they get updated?
The focus of this visual update was to increase the visibility of his E projectile, the width of the Q projectile and the focal point of his ultimate, which is the head of the laser. This is the point where you ask 'which E projectile?', right? Well just watch:
Which Vel'Koz Skins Will Be Updated?
These are the skins getting updated:
- Battlecast Vel'Koz
- Arclight Vel'Koz
- Definitely Not Vel'Koz
- Infernal Vel'Koz
- Blackfrost Vel'Koz
So, let's brush over what we mentioned already. These changes will basically just have an impact on his abilities and not on the skins themselves. The hitboxes will be adjusted as well, just like with the base skin.
Infernal Vel'Koz and Blackfrost Vel'Koz are relatively new skins and were only released recently, so they will have the least amount of work done to them.
When Will The Vel'Kox VFX Go Live?
The update should be released in LoL Patch 12.03. According to the current League of Legends patch plan, that would be Wednesday, February 2, 2022. So you won't have to wait much longer for some updated Vel'Koz visuals out there, even if it's just his abilities.
Why is this update so important right now? Well, according to Riot, we're getting a new Void champion – a real monster champion – so we're expecting a whole Void event to be released soon!
