Xbox's users, be careful! You might lose your Baldur's Gate 3 saves due to a nasty in-game bug. A fix has finally been announced, until then there are some other ways on how to fix this problem.
During the Game Awards 2023, Larian Studio shadow-dropped Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X/S in celebration of winning the "Game of the Year" award. However, there's a bit of a hiccup as there's a bug that could delete your game progress.
Larian Studio has already released one patch to address the issue, but they're working on another fix because simply patching the game won't fully solve the problem. The developers are collaborating with Microsoft on this, and this fix has been confirmed to be coming soon.

Good news is it shouldn't be present on the Xbox retail version, so long as your Xbox firmware is up to date.

When the hotfix will come is unclear so far. Considering that the issue is now known, it should hopefully not take too long.
How To Fix The Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox Save Bug Before The Update
Until the fix is ready, Microsoft has shared a helpful step-by-step guide on how to avoid the save file problem. To avoid the heartbreak of losing your save file in Baldur's Gate 3, take a few extra steps before jumping into the world of Faerûn. This way, you can make sure your progress stays safe and sound!
- Keep your console powered – Don't turn the power off before the console hasn't been turned off properly.
- How to turn the console off? To turn it off, hold down the "Xbox" button and select "Turn off console" or just press the "Power" button on the front of the Xbox console
- Keep your Xbox firmware up to date – Always update your console, as they include multiple fixes to how games operate on your system. Even if you receive automatic updates, check if there aren't any updates on hold
- How to perform a manual update? Have a stable internet connection, press the "Xbox" button and select "Profile & System" go to "Settings" then to "System" and lastly "Updates". There you'll see either "Console update available" or "No console update available". If the first option is present, update your firmware and with the second option you are good to go
- Close your game – Before closing your Baldur's Gate 3 game, save your progress and then close is when you are done.
- How to close the game? Press the "Xbox" button on your controller to get to the Home screen. While being there, highlight Baldur's Gate 3, press the "Menu" button and select "Quit"
