Amazon Prime Video secretly removed its watchparty feature, without notifying their subscribers.
After Twitch recently removed their Amazon Watch Party feature on April 2, the popular feature now disappeared from Amazon Prime Video completely, leaving many of their subscribers in confusion because they never announced the feature's removal.
Amazon Prime Video Removes Watch Party Feature
Amazon Prime quietly removed their Watch Party feature on the platform.
Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in the past years, watch party features have become increasingly popular. It allows users to watch their favorite shows and series simultaneously with their friends and families all around the world.
Having a movie night with your friend from another country has become incredibly easy. So even without the pandemic, Amazons Watch Party feature is popular among long distance friends, partners, and family members. It brings people from all over the world together and allows us to connect with each other and enjoy typical home activities together even if a distance brings us apart.
Sadly... with the pandemic situation gradually improving in recent months and years, the usage has also declined. Amazon is not the only platform, which removed this social feature, in September 2023, Disney+ quietly removed its Group Watch feature as well.
For some reason, Amazon never notified their users about the feature being removed from their service, but it just disappeared.Bad Timing
Timing Couldn't Be Worse With Upcoming Release
What is even more unfortunate about this, is the timing. Amazon removed their watch party feature just DAYS before the new Fallout series releases. The Fallout show is based on a highly popular video game franchise and highly anticipated by many gamers. It also would have been the perfect series to stream on Twitch in a watch party... So Amazon didn't really do themselves a favor with this timing.
