Bonk! Stellar Blade Gets First 18+ Rating For Obvious Reasons

Stellar Blade, the game becoming famous for its beautiful protagonist (based on model Shin Jae-eun), has received its first 18+ rating. This surely comes as a great sign for those interested in the game, and you know exactly why.

Stellar Blade is the first console games from the team behind the massively popular mobile game Nikke. And if that game is anything to go by, we should have expected Stellar Blade to look the way it does. Put simply, this game will appeal to anyone who's down bad.

As the art director said in an interview with GamesRadar:

We put special attention on the back of the character because the player is always facing the back of the character when they're playing.

And they certainly did put "special attention" on the back of the character, which is one of the reasons the game has just earned its first 18+ rating.

Stellar Blade Rated 18+ In South Korea

The South Korean rating agency has deemed Stellar Blade inappropriate for minors for the following reasons:

  • There is direct explicit body exposure, such as the female character appearing naked in her costume.
  • Excessive violence.
  • There is an expression of a mutilated body and red blood.

We haven't seen the full range of outfits available for Eve (the main character), but we expect they're a lot more NSFW than those feature in the marketing campaigns so far. But is this enough to sell copies?

Stellar Blade is going to cost $70, which is a hell of a price to justify if your only interest is in how Eve looks from behind. That said, Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball sold hundreds of thousands of copies at launch, so there's clearly a market. Will you be playing Stellar Blade? Or do you prefer to keep certain types of content out of your video games?
