First-person Action RPGs are becoming a bigger genre and already have a solid fan base. Dungeonborne, which is the stand-out game of the current Steam Next Fest, is the latest hit in the genre.
Since February 5, the Steam Next Fest has been taking place, allowing you to download and play numerous free demos. You have one week to explore which games await you in the future. One title in particular stands out during this event.
Dungeonborne Has The Most Active Players On Next Fest
Dungeonborne, the first-person PvPvE dungeon crawler with the Dark Souls vibe, climbed to the top of the hundreds of games during the Steam Next Fest.
In the game, you either venture alone or in a group into the adventure to navigate dark dungeons and search for treasures. Along the way, you'll battle not only monsters like skeleton warriors, but also other players who don't want to share the loot with you.
You must skillfully leverage the strengths of your chosen class and assert yourselves against your enemies in the ever-shrinking area. If you come out of this alive, you can invest the earned money for new equipment. If not, tough luck. Then you lose your character and have to start with a new one.
How's that? You've heard that somewhere before? You're not the only ones. The gameplay mechanics bear strong resemblances to another game that was featured at last year's Next Fest. Dark and Darker had reached phenomenal player numbers back then, reaching over 100,000 concurrent players at some points.
Here, too, the main task was to explore dungeons in typical RPG fashion and fend off mobs and other players. Unfortunately, the success was overshadowed by a lawsuit that still hasn't reached a final resolution, resulting in the removal of the game from Steam.
Back to Dungeonborne. On the Steam page, the game is described as follows:
Delve deep into the treacherous corridors of Clouseau Castle on a solo venture, or brave the multi-floored Sinner's End with up to two allies. Discover hoards of priceless artifacts and defeat the monsters that guard them. Then lead your party to safety, before these walls become your tomb. Embrace your role as a Fighter, Priest, Rogue, Swordmaster, Pyromancer, Cryomancer, or Death Knight. With first-person clarity, feel the power of each spell, the heft of your weapons, and the strategic weight of every decision.
In addition to the classic "Dark and Darker"-like mode, the game also includes a 3v3 mode where you can eliminate each other in an arena without risking your loot. The devs also promised to add other modes as well.
A specific release date hasn't been announced yet, so if you want to try out Dungeonborne, you should take the opportunity and play the demo until February 12, when the Steam Next Fest ends.
