Season 4 of Diablo 4 began on May 14. However, players were faced with an immediate problem; a huge patch that prevented them from even starting the new season.
The moment the new season of Diablo launched, on Tuesday, May 14, anticipation was at its peak. However, for many, the excitement soon turned to disappointment as the patch that accompanied the launch of the season could not be pre-installed, causing an immediate setback.
Diablo 4 Season 4 Launch Marred By Lack Of Preload Option
Some players had to download an 11 GB patch, while others were faced with a slightly smaller 7 GB patch. The issue had been brewing on the Blizzard forums for hours prior to the launch of Season 4. Users speculated about the possibility of a preload, a question that remained unanswered until launch.Diablo expert Rob2628 hinted at the possibility of preloading on X (Twitter), but the expected option never came to fruition. And by launch, frustration was palpable, especially for those without fast Internet speeds.
The dissatisfaction spread across Blizzard's forums and social media platforms, prompting a response from Community Development Director Adam Fletcher:
This wasn't ideal for sure. We have a war-room going and there have been talks about looking at improving this in the future and allowing players some more of a window to prep with downloads in the future.
Addressing the community, Adam Fletcher acknowledged the inconvenience and assured players that discussions were underway to improve the process for future seasons. Specifically, Blizzard is looking to ensure a smoother start to future seasons.
