Half-Pipe Dreams: Tony Hawk's Remake Sequels Ditched For CoD

A few years ago, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2 were re-released for the PS4 and PS5. Now, it's been revealed that there were plans to bring even more Tony Hawk games to newer consoles, but CoD took priority.

In 2021 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 was released for the PS5 and PS4. The game was very well received by the community, with older players reliving their nostalgic past as well, getting to enjoy these iconic skateboarding games once more on new gen consoles.

It seems like there were also plans for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 to also be remade for these consoles, but Vicarious Visions couldn't get through to Activision, who needed the developers to work on other projects the company deemed more important.

Not Enough Time To Make Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Remakes

Remaking older games and bringing them into today's style is something a lot of developers are currently doing. Why make something new, when you've got something old that can just be upgraded? Foolproof plan. It seemed like Vicarious Visions had this idea as well, remaking the skateboarding classing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 for the PS4 and PS5.

According to video game historian Liam Robertson, Vicarious Visions, was planning on remaking all four Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games. Unfortunately, publisher Activision had other plans and therefore the developer didn't have enough time to work on all four games, hence why only the first two were ever released.

Robertson's sources claim that Vicarious Visions had to "settle on adding some handling features from the later games to reflect the way people remember the old Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games. The improvements from 3 seemed to bleed into people’s memories of the first 2." It also seems like the devs quickly realized they wouldn't have time for more than the first two games.

But a pitch for 3+4 was sent out to Activision, especially after how successful the remake of the first two games was. Unfortunately, Vicarious Visions was moved to help with Activision's biggest franchise, Call of Duty. The devs also helped with the Diablo 2 remake.

This isn't the first we've heard of potential Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remakes, with the man himself, Tony Hawk, stating in 2022 that the merger with Activision caused the project to be put on the back burner.
