The latest PS5 update is a stand against cheaters. Sony is making sure that the so-called Cronus Zen device can't be used anymore.
Sony's latest PlayStation 5 update has cracked down on the Cronus Zen device, a tool favored by cheaters to gain unfair advantages in games.
The update, known as 24.01-08.60.00, effectively severed the connection between the Cronus Zen and the console. Although Cronus describes the device as a "controller emulator," cheaters have exploited it for a variety of digital tweaks.
The Cronus Zen, a multi-platform controller adapter and modding tool, allowed cheaters to adapt mouse and keyboard inputs to the PS5, reduce recoil, and create macros.
Some players used it to trick the console into recognizing a controller, while using a keyboard and mouse for improved aiming and movement.
Anti-Cheat Update For PlayStation: Sony Follows Xbox, Blizzard, Ubisoft, And More
Cronus has not provided a specific timeline for restoring compatibility with theirdevices. It remains unclear whether Sony intentionally issued a patch to block the Cronus Zen or if other third-party cheating hardware is also affected.
Cronus has acknowledged the issue, stating: "We are aware of an issue with Zen and the PS5," it says. "Since January 24th, the console has been prompting to update to version 24.01-08.60.00. If you do that, Zen will no longer connect to the PS5. However, this update is NOT mandatory! Simply skip it, and everything should work as expected with Zen Update 2.2.2."
This move by Sony aligns with actions taken by other gaming companies like Xbox, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Bungie, and Epic Games, who have all cracked down on unauthorized controllers, accessories, and third-party hardware used for cheating in various games.
