Battlefield 2042 really wasn't what fans had wanted or expected when it first released. It was filled with bugs and issues which made the game feel unplayable and caused it to become one of the worst games in the Battlefield series .

This failure also made the devs take a step back and re-evaluate the direction they want to take with future Battlefield titles. So, maybe in the end the failure of one game might be the reason for multiple better new ones, right?

Battlefield Universe Will Feature Free-To-Play Battle Royale Game

There are a few Battlefield titles in the pipeline according to Insider Gaming, with one of them taking players back to their roots. It seems that this upcoming title will bring back 64-player lobbies, while also adding in the 4-class systems players loved.

This sounds pretty promising for the next mainline game, but players are going to have to be a bit more patient. It's expected that the game is going to launch by October 2025, but that is also still tentative information and by this point anything can still happen.

There is another game in the works though by Ripple Effect, who are working on creating new experiences in the Battlefield universe. It seems that they're working on a Battle Royale title, similar to Call of Duty: Warzone. This isn't the first time Battlefield is trying a Battle Royale, but it seems that this time they're all-in on the project.

According to Insider Gaming, the Battle Royale already has two game modes, with one being the classic Battle Royale we know and love, while the other sees players compete in objective-based rounds.

Honestly, the second game mode sounds really fun and unique, giving players a different Battle Royale experience by raking in points through mission completions, rather than just killing one another. After each round, the teams with the fewest points will be eliminated.
