Recently, Microsoft revealed its plan to launch its mobile gaming empire this July. Sarah Bond, head of Xbox, revealed the news while speaking at the Bloomberg Technology Summit. She stated that an extensive selection of Xbox games from their own stable will grace this store, which will first debut online before its expansive reach "across all devices, all countries, no matter what".

A Universal Gaming Experience

According to Bond, the ultimate goal of the Xbox mobile gaming platform is to provide an effortlessly accessible experience, regardless of location or device.

“We’re kicking off with our in-house collection on the Xbox mobile emporium, so you’ll encounter classics like Candy Crush and Minecraft in this realm. Our kickoff will be online because it ensures a universal experience, spanning all devices and territories, regardless of the closed ecosystem store policies.”

While the initial lineup of the Xbox mobile gaming store will feature first-party creations, it's expected to evolve to include collaborative ventures in due course. Bond elaborated on Microsoft's desire to go beyond simply creating a gaming-centric application and instead ensure that "your library, your identity, your rewards follow you wherever you go."

This idea has been brewing at Microsoft for over two years, and its imminent realization is met with anticipation. For many gamers, however, the real test will be its execution.

More insights are expected to emerge before the store launches in July 2024.
