A Helldivers 2 player recently shared an easy method for datamining the game. It's surprisingly simple, and so far it has resulted in the discovery of upcoming DLC and even a test build of what the community believe is Arrowhead's next game, Testament.
Update March 3: Within hours of this article first being published, the moderators at Reddit deleted the thread discussed below, in which one user shared an easy method for datamining Helldivers 2. We will not share the method, but we can share some of the results of that datamining.
Helldivers 2 has had an incredible launch, with sales that far exceed what the devs were expecting (probably thanks to their awesome CEO), and we're thankful a game was finally able to dethrone Palworld. But the game has been out for a few weeks now and as modern gamers, we're already demanding new content. Luckily, Arrowhead Games are well-prepared for future content drops.
One player recently discovered a surprisingly simple method for datamining Helldivers 2, and they shared some of their early findings on Reddit. Apparently there is an entire test build for their next game, Testament, inside the Helldivers 2 code! And that's not to mention all the awesome new content we can expect after mechs!
In gaming, data mining refers to extracting hidden information from game files or data traffic. This can include uncovering unreleased content, such as new characters, levels, or items, by analyzing game updates or network data. Gamers or developers might use this technique to predict future updates, understand game mechanics deeply, or gain a competitive edge. It's a way to peek behind the curtain of game development and updates, often leading to speculation.
Helldivers 2 Is "Easy" To Datamine
In the late evening on March 2, 2024, a Redditor shared a simple method for datamining Helldivers 2. We can't share the method or any of the exact lines of code, but here are the highlights:
- A ton of customization options are coming to the game.
- It looks like a classes feature was either scrapped or is in the works for post-launch.
- A whole test build of Arrowhead's next game, Testament, is supposedly in the code.
- New enemy types are mentioned, called Cyborgs and Iluminates.
This thread has now been deleted by the moderators at Reddit, but if the method is that easy, we're sure more leaks will be on the way soon for Helldivers 2. The content all sounds incredibly promising so we're hyped, but if you don't like spoilers, and you're a Helldivers fan, beware!
What do you think of datamining; should devs protect against it? Or, do you think it's fun to let the audience follow the breadcrumb trail? Let us know in the comments, and good luck liberating the galaxy!
