Hideo Kojima announced a new game called Physint during the recent Sony State of Play.
The State of Play on January 31 was a jam-packed showcase that had one last stinger at the end: Hideo Kojima and his company Kojima Productions are working on an action-espionage game called Physint, a brand-new IP that is being developed in cooperation with Sony.
Action-espionage? Yes, this very much sounds like a new Metal Gear Solid-like game from the master himself.
Hideo Kojima’s Next Game Physint Is A Return To His Roots
Metal Gear Solid is one of the most iconic gaming franchises of all time and the series that made Kojima a legend of the industry. After issues during the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015), Kojima left Konami and Metal Gear behind to create Kojima Productions and work on something completely different, Death Stranding.
Now, Kojima is set to return to the genre. Not much has been revealed about Physint, with production being set to fully start after Death Stranding 2 releases in 2025. Kojima Productions is also working on a third game, the horror experience OD.
Kojima describes Physint as a “next-generation action espionage game”, suggesting that this might even be a PlayStation 6 title. So Physint is still a long way away, I’m thinking either 2028 or 2029.
"PHYSINT (working title)" will be the third, new original IP since the establishment of KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. It is a completely new "Action Espionage" for the next-generation. It will be created using cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from... pic.twitter.com/0vnMXJbGNz

Kojima calls Physint “the culmination of my work” and “an interactive ‘game’, but it is also a movie at the same time in terms of look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound”. Lofty promises, but the man and his incredibly talented team know how to deliver.
As a life-long Metal Gear Solid fan, I’m incredibly excited to see Kojima return to the genre. I can’t wait to see, what Kojima Productions and Sony will be able to cook up here. Are you as excited as me? Or do you want to see Kojima and his team make more weird stuff like Death Stranding? Let us know in the comments!
