Sony's PlayStation VR 2 Struggling, Just Two Games Reportedly In Development

Sony's PlayStation VR 2 is facing a grim future, with reportedly only two new titles in development, signaling a major pullback in support for the once-promising VR platform.

It's a bummer, honestly. The PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) came out swinging with some cool games like Horizon Call of the Mountain and Gran Turismo 7. Plus, it added some spooky fun with Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 Remake. But now, it looks like the party's over.

Sources close to Android Central are claiming that Sony have reduced the budget for VR game development. They're keeping it on the down-low, but the gist is pretty clear: don't expect many new VR games from Sony anytime soon.

Fans Left Hanging As Future Looks Bleak For PSVR 2

To make matters worse, it turns out that Sony's only got two PSVR 2 games in the works right now. And with how things are going in the gaming world — studios shutting down left and right — it's not looking likely that we'll even get to see these games.

When Android Central tried to get some answers from Sony, they got radio silence. We'll have to stay tuned to see if Sony gives up any details later.

Looking back, maybe we should have guessed this was coming. Last December, a hack at Insomniac Games (the folks behind Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank) showed they weren't working on any VR titles for PSVR 2 at all. That's a shocker, since they've made some great VR games for other platforms before.

Last year, Sony only dropped three games for PSVR 2 and hasn’t said anything about any new ones coming in 2024 or 2025. To top it off, they shut down London Studio in February. Remember them? They made Blood & Truth and the PlayStation VR Worlds demo that everyone loved.

So, what's next for PSVR 2? It's anyone's guess, but right now, it's not looking too hot. Here's hoping Sony surprises us, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
