The Xbox CEO instills hope among fans: Could the much-anticipated cloud gaming feature be on the horizon? Our expectations soar as Phil Spencer promises its arrival within the year.
Since 2019, subscribers of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate have been able to play games on multiple devices via Cloud Gaming. This includes not only consoles but also PC and even mobile devices. That would be pretty nice if there wasn't a catch: The games available for Cloud Gaming are currently limited to those included in the Game Pass. Fans have been hoping for ages that this will change.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Announces Games Outside Of Game Pass Will Be Added To Xbox Cloud Gaming
Via Xbox Chat, CEO Phil Spencer was asked if there are any updates regarding the ability to play owned games on XCloud. With the straightforward words "Should be this year," he announced that we can expect the long-awaited feature to arrive soon.
Unfortunately, that's all the information Spencer provided. Even the statement we have leaves room for doubt. In the comments sections of related Reddit and Twitter/X posts, people are taking the announcement with a grain of salt.
One Twitter user writes, "Well, he confirmed we'll have an update about it this year, not that it will release this year." On Reddit users are also unsure what to make of it, "hmm I dunno man, he's been saying that 'the next year will be the true start for big Xbox games', every year for like a decade now"
Indeed, since this is not an official announcement from Xbox or Microsoft, we should also treat the information with caution. Microsoft has already made headlines this year with their plan to relaunch exclusive titles on other platforms, aiming to make the Xbox brand accessible to as many gamers as possible. Expanding Xcloud would be an important step in this direction, one that many Xbox fans would surely welcome.
