21/100: This Is The Worst PS4 Game Of All Time

For more than 10 years, the PS4 has provided us with fantastic games like Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Last of Us Part 2. However, alongside these highly praised PS titles, we have also witnessed less successful games and this one is the lowest-rated game. Seriously, it's so bad that you can't even play it anymore.

The Worst PS4 Game: Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One

Since 2001, everything the media landscape has to offer has been cheerfully reviewed on Metacritic. This includes games that are scrutinized by both general users and critics, who can be quite ruthless at times. The 2015 action-adventure game Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One experienced this firsthand. With a crushing score of 21 out of 100, it is considered the worst PS4 game on the rating platform.

As the prominent "2" in the title already suggests, this game is a sequel. The first installment, simply titled Afro Samurai, is loosely based on the manga of the same name. The story can be summarized as follows:

There is always THE Number One fighter in the world. To become that, you must defeat the current Number One. However, you can only do that if you are Number 2. The titular Afro is currently Number 2, trying to reclaim the title that belonged to his murdered father and take revenge on someone called Justice. The fight for the top spot continues in Afro Samurai 2, where you play Kuma, who wants to take revenge on Afro. At least, I think that's the case. I'm not entirely sure about the details.

The first game received a somewhat more solid rating of 65/100, by the way. Not a masterpiece, but at least better.

What Makes The Game So Bad?

Well, the problem with Afro Samurai 2 is that it has more than one problem. The reviews describe it as a "technical mess of hot garbage," listing poor voice acting, a ridiculous story, boring gameplay, unresponsive controls, and ugly graphics. But see for yourself.

• "GameCritics" on Metacritic: "Afro Samurai 2 sports questionable design, is broken in many ways, and is generally unworthy of anyone's time or money. I wouldn't even recommend this to the hardest of hardcore fans of the series. Why the developers and publishers let this game hit the market, I'll never know."
• User "WatsonStudios" on Metacritic: "Welcome to the very definition of AWFUL. Afro Samurai 2 is more of a learning tool than a video game, it teaches people what NOT to do when they want to create video games. This is not an exaggeration."

Players didn't have to endure this ordeal for long. The title lasted only a month in the stores. The developers at Versus Evil themselves called their game a "failure", apologized to all buyers with a refund, and removed Afro Samurai 2 from the platforms.

Sadly, there was never a happy ending, not even for the studio. In 2021, it was acquired by the Graveyard Keeper publisher tinyBuild and completely shut down in December 2023.
