The new survival game Enshrouded is challenging Palworld's dominance, marking its launch on Steam with significant success.
On January 24, Enshrouded launched into early access on Steam and to great success. As you can read in our Enshrouded review, the game offers a fantastic new take on the survival genre, combining survival traditions with deep character building and an exciting fantasy world.
We’re clearly not the only ones that enjoyed Enshrouded, as the game instantly became a success. As developer Keen Games revealed in a post on Twitter/X, the game has “attracted over a million players” in the first four days of release.

So far, the game is going down pretty well on Steam. At the time of writing (January 29, 2024) the game has close to 13,000 reviews on Steam, with the overall rating being “Very Positive”.
While this is definitely a commendable success, Enshrouded’s release timing is of course quite unfortunate, with it coming out one week after the unexpected mega success Palworld. As both games are early access survival games, both games share pretty similar characteristics, and so far Palworld still has a clear advantage in terms of player numbers and reviews.
It’s interesting though that the game got serious competition almost immediately. Enshrouded is currently on number 2 of Steam’s best seller chart, just behind Palworld. It will be interesting to see how both games develop the further they get into early access, both in terms of the games themselves and their reputation among players.
